Privacy Policy for Kounts Apps
Last Updated: August 28, 2026
Welcome! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile applications: Kounts (event countdown app), Kounts Trip (travel companion app), Kounts Dose (medication tracker app), and Kounts Care (plant and pet care app), collectively referred to as the "Applications." Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT ACCESS THE APPLICATIONS.
1. COLLECTION OF YOUR INFORMATION
We may collect information about you in a very limited way. All your data — countdown events, trips, packing lists, day plans, travel journal entries, medications, schedules, dose history, plant and pet profiles, care history, growth photos and measurements, presets, images, and other content — is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data. The only information we collect includes:
- Analytics Data: We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. This helps us improve the app's performance and fix bugs. This data cannot be tied to your personal identity.
- Device Information: Basic device information such as your device model and operating system version may be collected as part of crash reports to help us troubleshoot issues.
- Kounts Care is different: Kounts Care does not include any third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Its usage counters (for example, how many care tasks were completed) are plain numbers kept on your own device and are not sent anywhere. If we ever add optional analytics uploading, it will be opt-in and this policy will be updated first.
2. USE OF YOUR INFORMATION
The limited information we collect is used solely for:
- Improving the Application through analytics and crash reports.
- Ensuring the app functions correctly on your device.
- Enhancing the user experience based on anonymous usage patterns.
All analytics data is anonymous and aggregated. The Application does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and no advertising identifiers are collected.
3. DATA STORAGE AND PRIVACY
We take your privacy seriously across all our apps:
- Local Storage: All your data — countdown events, trips, packing lists, day plans, travel journal entries, medications, schedules, dose history, plant and pet profiles, care tasks and history, growth photos, measurements and notes, presets, categories, images, and other content — is stored locally on your iOS device. We do not have access to this data.
- Optional Calendar Sync (Kounts only): If you enable Calendar Sync in Kounts, your countdown events are written into your Apple Calendar on your device. This happens entirely on-device and the data never passes through our servers.
- Shared Trips & iCloud (Kounts Trip): Your trips are kept on your device and in your own private iCloud database, managed by Apple through CloudKit. When you share a trip, that trip's details — its name, dates, packing list, day plans and journal — sync through Apple's CloudKit sharing only to the people you invite. This data lives in your iCloud account; it never touches our servers and we cannot read it.
- Shared Photos (Kounts Trip): Photos you attach to a memory that you deliberately share to a shared trip are uploaded to your iCloud so your invited companions can see them. Photos in private (unshared) memories never leave your device.
- Weather (Kounts Trip): Arrival forecasts come from Apple Weather (WeatherKit) using the destination you type into a trip. Kounts Trip never reads your device location — the destination is content you enter, and Apple processes the forecast request under Apple's terms.
- Calendar & Photos permissions (Kounts Trip): With your permission, Kounts Trip can add trip dates to your Apple Calendar and save a recap or countdown card to your photo library. These actions happen on-device; we never receive this data.
- Live Activity (Kounts Trip): When you reach a trip's departure day with Live Activities enabled, a countdown is displayed on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. This is rendered entirely on-device using local data.
- Optional iCloud Sync (Kounts Dose only): If you turn on iCloud sync (part of the one-time Dose Plus purchase), your medications, schedules and dose history are kept in your own private iCloud database, managed by Apple through CloudKit. This data is stored only in your iCloud account — it never touches our servers and we cannot read it. Sync is off by default.
- Health & Medication Content (Kounts Dose): Your medicines, dosages, schedules and dose history are treated as private, on-device content. We never collect, receive, or have access to medication names, doses, or any other health content — analytics record only anonymous, aggregated feature counters, never what you take.
- On-Device Care Data (Kounts Care): Your plant and pet profiles, care tasks and completion history, growth photos, measurements, notes and archived or memorial profiles are stored on your device. We do not have access to any of it.
- Household Sharing (Kounts Care): If you invite family or housemates to your household, your profiles and care history sync through Apple's CloudKit sharing, inside your own private iCloud database. Everyone you invite can see and update every profile in the household. This data never touches our servers and we cannot read it. The invitation link is a capability link: anyone who opens it can join the household, so only send it to people you trust.
- Sitter Links (Kounts Care): When you create a sitter link, Kounts Care publishes a limited, read-only snapshot to Apple's CloudKit public database so the person sitting for you can open a web page without an account or an app. That snapshot contains only what a sitter needs: your household name, the dates covered, the care tasks for up to 14 days, the notes you wrote for the sitter, the emergency contact you entered, and any toxicity cautions. It does not include your growth photos, your full care history, or your household members' identities. Because no sign-in is required, anyone who has the link can view that snapshot, so treat it like a password and only share it with your sitter. Links expire automatically (14 days by default) and revoking a link deletes the published snapshot immediately. Please avoid putting sensitive personal information into sitter notes or the emergency contact field.
- Camera & Photos (Kounts Care): With your permission, the camera is used to identify a plant and to take growth photos, and photo library access (add only) is used when you save a timelapse, a before and after image, or an export. Kounts Care never reads or scans your existing photo library.
- Location & Weather (Kounts Care): If you allow it, Kounts Care uses your approximate while-in-use location for two things: heat and frost care nudges from Apple Weather (WeatherKit), and adjusting seasonal watering to the daylight where you live. Your location is used on the device and sent only to Apple to fetch the forecast, under Apple's terms. We never receive it, and it is never stored on our side. Declining location permission simply turns those nudges off; everything else keeps working.
- Plant Identification (Kounts Care): Identification runs on your device first, using Apple's Vision framework and, on supported devices, Apple Intelligence's on-device language model (Apple may route parts of this through its Private Cloud Compute under Apple's privacy terms). One optional step in that process sends a downscaled copy of the photo you just took to Pl@ntNet, an independent plant-identification service, to get an exact species match. Only that single photo is sent, with no account, name or other data attached, and it happens only when you actively identify a plant. Pl@ntNet processes it under its own privacy policy. Manual search is always available if you prefer not to send anything.
- Notifications & Widgets (Kounts Care): Care reminders, overdue follow-ups, supply alerts and the daily digest are scheduled by iOS on your device from your local data. Widgets, Lock Screen counts and Siri shortcuts read a small snapshot file stored on your device. None of this passes through our servers.
- No Private Data Collection: We do not collect, store, or have access to your private names, event details, session notes, medication details, plant or pet details, locations, or images you add to your data.
- Third-Party Services: We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics and crash reporting (not in Kounts Care, which has no analytics SDK at all). These services are configured without advertising identifiers and do not track you across other apps or websites. Apple's CloudKit, WeatherKit and Apple Intelligence handle the sync, forecast and on-device identification features described above under Apple's own privacy terms. Pl@ntNet is used only for the optional plant identification step in Kounts Care. We use no advertising networks and no data brokers in any of our apps.
4. TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
We use Firebase Analytics to help us understand how users interact with our Application. This service collects anonymous usage data. No personally identifiable information is collected through this technology. Firebase Crashlytics is used to identify and fix app crashes. Neither service uses advertising identifiers or tracks you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Kounts Care ships with no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. It keeps a small set of anonymous counters on your device only, and sends nothing.
5. SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
Since all your content is stored locally on your device, the security of this data depends on your device's security settings. We recommend using device passcodes, Face ID, or Touch ID to protect access to your device. For the limited analytics data we collect, we use industry-standard security measures through Google Firebase.
6. APP STORE PRIVACY NUTRITION LABELS
In accordance with Apple's App Store guidelines, we disclose how data is handled:
- Your event data and other app content is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or to our servers.
- Anonymous analytics and crash report data is collected through Google Firebase and is not linked to your identity.
- Kounts Dose does not collect health data. Your medications, schedules and dose history stay on your device (or, if you enable sync, only in your private iCloud database, which Apple treats as not collected because we cannot read it). Its analytics record only anonymous feature counters, never medication names or doses.
- Kounts Trip's only collected data is anonymous, aggregated usage and crash reports, which are not linked to your identity. Your trips, packing lists, day plans, journal and photos stay on your device — or, when you share a trip, only in your private iCloud database and with the companions you invite, which Apple treats as not collected because we cannot read it. Weather forecasts use the destination you type, not your device location.
- Kounts Care collects no data at all: it has no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, so there is nothing to link to your identity. Your profiles, care history, photos and notes stay on your device, or in your own private iCloud database when you use household sharing. Location, when you allow it, is used on-device and by Apple Weather to fetch a forecast; it is never sent to us. A sitter link publishes only the limited, expiring snapshot described above, at your choice and to the people you give the link to.
7. GDPR & DATA PROTECTION
Because your event data and other app content is stored only on your own device, we never see, access, or process this data. As such:
- We are not a data controller for your event data, which never leaves your device through us.
- The only data we may process is anonymous analytics and crash reports, which cannot be tied to your personal identity.
- The one exception is a Kounts Care sitter link. That snapshot is published, at your request, to the public database of our iCloud container, so it is technically within our reach even though we never read it or use it for anything. You stay in control: revoke the link in the app and the snapshot is deleted right away, and every link expires on its own. If you would like us to confirm a deletion, contact us at the address below.
8. POLICY FOR CHILDREN
We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take the necessary actions.
9. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
